It never fails. No matter where I put my Estraderm patch, I'll start itching there not long after. Anyone else encounter this?

I have the same problem with the Nicotine Patches.  It is contract dermatitis.  If you get raised, red rashes you will have to stop using patches.  It is geneally the adhesive that they use.  But some are allergic to the carrier for the medication.

I had that when I first started using the patch. Then they stopped sticking and would leave red marks on the skin. I finally had to stop using them altogether and went on oral estrodiol. That hasn't been problem free either and I am hoping to start using injectables next week.

what kind are using? The generic brand? I ask because i was on the generic brand and had the same problem, then I switched to a brand and have not had any problems what so ever.

Well, I don't have any raised red rash. There is some redness, but that appears to be a result of my scratching after I take the patch off.

I'm using brand-name Estraderm, not generic. But the itching is driving me crazy. I'll ask my endo about switching estrogens.

I use the vivelle dot patch they are smaller and very much less irratating. no red or scratching.

Nicotine patches are the worst for itching by far.

Have used Progynova TS 100 (sp?) at times in the past and they were fine and didn't have problems staying on with showering etc.

As said upthread it sounds like contact dermatitis caused by the adhesive.

Also use Vivelle-Dot. No itching, no mess.

Another +1 for Vivelle Dot. And, they stay on way better than Mylan generic estraderm.
