Today, at noon, I will give disclosure to those who report directly to me at work; followed by line level Managers...  The rest of the property will be made aware of the up-coming changes by HR.  All will know within a week.  I don't plan on going full time until February, but this has been expedited in preparation for that...  Though, I have the support of the corporate office, and the executive committee at my property; I can't help but feel overwhelmingly nervous...  I'll post a result, and the overall reception later tonight...

First off, GOOD LUCK!

I have to admit that I don't know how I would be able to handle telling everybody for so far down the road... But I definitely can understand why the company would want to have a period for you to evolve into full-time on the job from a change management perspective in the workplace (giving others time to get comfortable). I hadn't really thought about it before. I suppose that is because I'm so wrapped up in myself that it would be easy to forget about what others in the workplace would need. I'm very interested in what happens and any successful tips that you have in the end. I'll probably be in a similar position in the not so distant future...

I hope that the transition for you and your co-workers goes well. Sounds like things have been very supportive. Fingers crossed.

I know the feeling. But everyone turned out to be supportive to my surprise. I hope the same for you!

I plan on doing something similar to that.

Where I work I'm a supervisor. I've come out to all of the other supervisors and some certain regular staff and I plan to talk to 1 or 2 managers who are cool very soon. I'm terrified of my general manager though. Not that she can "let me go" anyway...this being Canada and also I'm basically an assistant manager without the pay raise and the keys. Everyone treats me like one anyway haha

Still, that's a scary thing I'm going to have to do shortly.

Good luck with the reception of it all, and congrats on taking such a big step!! ;D

It's been a busy couple of days, so I apologize for the delay in follow-up.  It went 50/50.  Of my six employees (who report to me)  three were positive and congratulatory; the other three were non-responsive, and almost had trouble making eye contact...  One of my guys has had someone in his family transition.  Another came to me yesterday, thanking me for the disclosure, and commending me on the powerful letter.  He then told me of his understanding and his own plight growing up in rural Louisiana in a very Catholic family as a gay man (something previously undisclosed).  I almost cried it was so sweet!

I'm not worried about the rest of the building.  It is a very diverse property!  I've had some of the managers talking to me more now, and even a couple who've sought me out on Facebook.  I am hopeful for the future, for it is a very exciting time to be alive!  Please go check out, "What made me happy today", for even better news...
