'Performing Gender' main theme for women's studies conferenceThe "History of Transgender Political Activism" was one of many presentations at the Interdisciplinary Conference in Women's Studies at MTSU last Thursday through Saturday.
Presented by Marisa Richmond, adjunct professor of history at MTSU and current president and lobbyist for Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition, the lecture went through the history of transgender activism from the 1960s transgender riots in Philadelphia and San Francisco to present day transgender efforts and issues.
The lecture also discussed the issue of discrimination against transgender persons and touched on the broader issue of eradicating homophobia and trans-phobia.
