Progesterone replacing Spironolactone?

My endocrinologist just decreased my dosage of spironolactone and told me to start taking progesterone as well.
I fear that my androgens won't be blocked enough. I'm still taking spironolactone, just not as much as before, and adding prometrium to the mix, along with estradiol.
Is this normal, or could he have written a lower amount of spironolactone on my prescription by accident?

Thanks in advance.

No accident.  I think your Endo is seeing the effect and adjusting your dosages to add the progesterone.  I take the spiro, E and the P in cycles.  My T level is low.  The P may enhance breast growth.  My doc had me halve all of the dosages 3 weeks ago, no problems.   I am doing well at 10 1/2 months.   Be patient!

Phew. Thanks, people.
I get so worried about taking the wrong dosage or medication. It's like life or DEATH decisions! (Mostly because I'm suicidal)
*Badum TSSH!*
no? no one?
okay... :(

Okay, this is BULL!
Over the last week I have become a lot more male again, and it's either due to adding progesterone to my medication, or from upping my estradiol dosage. I doubt it's the estradiol.
Can somebody please tell me why this would happen? I'm considering not taking the progesterone even though my endocrinologist prescribed it to me.

Sheesh. First Avodart, and now progesterone. It's like the only medication I'm able to take is spironolactone and estradiol. Anything else makes me revert back to a man. What gives?

Are you saying I didn't give it enough time? I think a week is plenty of time.
I'm not going to wait around a month on this stuff growing more body hair, muscle, having my facial features turn more and more masculine, when I know it's causing the problems.
I just don't get it. Progesterone isn't supposed to do this. I can't even bare to leave my house now.
Screw progesterone.

Oh, I see.
Thank you, Debra, and sorry if I came off sounding rude. It's the testosterone.

Progesterone does inhibit estrogenic effect, it is really not necessary to add progesterone while still having the testis intact, the reason is that the remaining T is enough to oppose E, you don't need another hormone to oppose E. Even after srs, there is still T in the system to void the need for progesterone (as long as one no longer use T blocker).

Progesterone may suppress LH, which then reduce T production, but progeterone also inhibit E. So it may or may not be a good idea to use progesterone as a T blocker.

This may be a bit late, but I'll add.  I completely stopped spironolactone and take injectable progesterone.  My T levels are actually too low now.  Medroxyprogesterone is used to chemically castrate child molesters etc.  (certainly not the reason I use it.)  It turns off the T producing cells, along with stimulating breast growth.  I had a really hard time with the spiro because everything I like, fresh fruits and veggies, is high in potassium.  I just couldn't keep with a diet low in Potassium and my levels were high.  Could your doctor be responding to the results of blood tests, or even your responses to diet questions?

Jacelyn,

I am not sure why you believe that progesterone or prometrium decrease estrogenic effect. From all that I have read that only happenswith the endometrium which we don't have. All the other cells sensitivity are increased by progesterone

The meaning of cell sensitivity in presence of progesterone: Progesterone receptor is sensitive to progesterone,  this sensitivity is due to the estrogen producing the progestorone receptors (it needs progesterone to bring out).  But the supplement of progesterone inhibit the proliferation of estrogen receptors, and reducing their content.

my endo says he only wants me on P for a little period because its good for boobs but also good for cancer ... so i think its also just safer for you to have less blockers to lower strain on organs :) now try not get the synthetic P because its risks are almost double that of the natural and a few are made from T so yea... anyways just trust your doctor :)

Progesterone might reverse the feminising effect because the body tries to maintain its original sex so adding extra feminine hormones will make it up the output of T and make you a mountain man with thick black hair on hands and body...I did it and thats what happeend to me.

Stop and think how long it takes  ayoung girl to chnage from flat chested littel girl to busty teenager and thats the progress to aim for.

YOu basically only need Spiro and estrogen and patience.

I think it is better to get this kind of opinion from a good doctor.
