it's dark and i'm in bed

both windows are open

moonlight creeps in through one, streetlight through the other
the song of crickets drones over the occasional passing car
i hear the nightly freight train, even though this is suburbia
the blind rattle every now and then
as the breeze brings me these sounds

these sounds are my companions
as i fall asleep
