About a week ago, my doctor switched me from oral medroxyprogesterone (a synthetic variant of progesterone) to oral micronized progesterone (the real thing). I must say, it's been an interesting few days.

    My results:

    • Day 1 - way more irritable and emotional (caught me by surprise)
    • Day 2 - felt wired, and had the odd feeling of being more "present" in the moment (hard to describe)
    • Day 3+ - more energy, sleeping less, much more talkative, not as hungry (I mean really not hungry)

This is the opposite of what I expected (ravenous, tired, etc.). Anybody else who had a medication change like this? How did you feel?

(NOTE: I am not advocating anyone change medications. I'm asking what happened if you did, under a doctors supervision.)

I added prometrium last Sept the best effect it has had is giving me the ability to sleep soundly for four to five hours at night before it was 2.5 and wide awake. I take it about an hour before bedtime and its lights out an hour later. I think it has also had a calming affect I just feel more at peace with myself. As far as top growth can't really say for sure as they have been steadily growing for the last 2.5 years slow but sure.
I did stop taking it for a short time and was a bitch who could not sleep so back on it and everything leveled out again.  Also my T went up but adding a little more spiro took care of that.

I've been taking Prometrium (twice daily, high dose, with food) for more than a year and at first, I noticed that I also had less appetite and felt less bloated although this is not always the case. Like sometimes, when it hits me and I get that "high" feeling, I'm actually hungrier. I start to crave chocolate and sugar.

I've noticed I have mood swings, from being super friendly and cheerful to being quite irritable and VERY aggressive. I sleep well at night but sometimes, I'll wake up from a really bad, vivid dream and won't be able to go back to sleep for a couple of hours. I definitely have more energy, no doubt about that and I think it's because it relaxes me, my mind, thus releasing much energy. My mind is not wasting energy. I've also noticed I'm recently more talkative than usual.

Other cis- and transwomen sometimes report similar effects to what you describe so you're certainly not alone in this. ;)

Also, do realize that medroxyprogesterone is still in your body due to its long half-life so together with progesterone could be amplifying some of the effects. Who knows?! It's best to wait several weeks to really see what's going on, up to 2 months, I think.

Enjoy the ride!

I have been on prometrium for a year. I take it at bed. I did not notice any effect I can remember except a little extra growth when I started.
