A TRANSGENDER woman is livid with how she has been portrayed nationally and feels betrayed by people she trusted.

Kirsty Cass, 49, from Crawley was born a male and has gender dysphoria, a feeling of belonging to the wrong gender.

She feels her story has been sensationalised by the national and international media.

It's too bad that the media picks up on stories like this and wrongly classify us as cross-dressers and not transsexuals.   I guess it's the price we pay for being included under the transgender umbrella.  It could be due to the story being from the UK, as the person said she was transgender, when she should have said transsexual according to current terminology here in North America, however they may use different terminology in the U.K.

Understand your point Steph, but any misunderstanding was entirely down to the press and the way they manipulated the story to make it saleable.

I can say that with confidence, firstly because like many, I know the British press very well. Second rate journalists, working in some regional paper want to get into the nationals. That means getting noticed.

Secondly, transgender is a generally used and well understood term here in the UK. Here, anything with the word sex in it tends to imply availability. Most, but not all the organisations which have sprung up, appparently, over the last 20 or so years tend to emphasise the term Transgender.

Perhaps, but its why wise people know that you keep your enemies close, but your friends closer.  It wasn't the Romans, or the Pharisees or any of the other groups that didn't like him that dropped the dime on Jesus, it was one of his own, and with a kiss at that.

Well, unlike Jesus, this woman has the opportunity to learn from her experiences. I can easily see myself falling into the same trap to be honest.

Tekla's point is well made. But the story is that she has survived and we can learn from her experiences.

We're not there yet, but we're on the way.
