Finding out how you fit in with your family, friends and the transgender community after transitioning is hard enough without having to confront dated stereotypes says male-to-female transexual Nyah.http://www.abc.net.au/local/audio/2011/10/18/3342563.htm?site=farnorth"Cairns university student, Nyah has a thick silver lip ring that curls over the left edge of her bottom lip.
She's dressed in muted tones and leans back on a bench looking out across the Esplanade. Her aviator sunglasses hide dark green eyes and she speaks in reserved tones, mindful of the people around her.
She moved up to Cairns in late 2009 where her mother lived at the time. Not long after she found work at James Cook University on a part-time basis but she studies at a different university via distance.
As part of her Bachelor of Arts degree she's taking a creative writing course over the summer so she can finish sooner.
When she's finished she's not sure what she'd like to but is open to the idea of postgraduate studies. Her marks are very good."
