What do we like to read?  I am sure I have forgotten some categories, so list them as other.

You should be able to vote for 2.

I voted for Sci-Fi and Biographies.

I know I did a huge post about the Wheel of Time elsewhere (which is 'Fantasy'), but I am actually not much of a fan of this genre, as I find them all rather samey.

Biography's are my favourite atmo, recently read Errol Flynns, which I have to say seems like a load of BS.

Currently I am trying to find a good Winston Chruchill biog, but there are so many, anyone read any?

As for Sci-Fi I really like Iain M Banks and Robert Heinlein (although some of his novels seem very dated now). I am really out of touch with what good modern sci-fi novels are out there, I don't like modern sci-fi tv, it all seems a bit of bandwagon, so ponder on the quality of modern novels.

I voted Science fiction and other. You didn't list mystery or history which are my other two favorites.

I too enjoy science fiction, but to be very honest I haven't read a book in quite a while.  It seems that I never have time.  I know, I know, that's a pretty lame excuse  :)  I found that one of the problems that I had with reading was that once started I had to read the entire book as fast as possible, and I would find myself reading in bed.  But like many, I probably spend far too much time in front of the TV, and in front of this infernal machine.  :)

I have the same problem Steph. I tend to stay up too late reading if I do it in the evening. I think the latest Harry Potter kept me up till 4 AM on a work night. Bleh.

So I've been reading a lot of non-fiction lately. At least I can put that down at bedtime.

OMG!  Only TWO choices?

Books have always been my escape, since I was a kid.  I enjoy historical fiction (James Michener, Gore Vidal), history; biographies are a favorite: the most recent one I read was about Russia's Catherine the Great.  Good science fiction is also a joy, Asimov's Robot and Foundation series are great.  Too bad most of what's currently being written is trash, though.  I think I've read everything that Kurt Vonnegut has ever published.  I really loved JRR Tolkien's stuff and actually had the good fortune of being able to take a course about his literature in college.

If I ever am affected by something new and serious (my wife's cancer, my transgender experience, for example) I get obsessive about reading everything I can get a hold of on the subject.

I recently realized that I have modelled my self to a great extent on what I've read over the years, learning how a man should think and behave.  Maybe I felt I needed the instructions since it didn't really come naturally.

Anyhow, if you're on a tight budget (who isn't?) a good source for books (besides the library:  they want 'em back!) are local thrift shops, the Salvation Army thrift store is my favorite in my neck of the woods.  While romance novels are in the majority some real gems can occaisionally be found.

Happy Reading!

I had to pick Other and History (Non-fiction).

Other in my case would refer to fiction/literature which somehow didn't make the list. And as far as non-fiction goes, it would hardly be limited to history.

Glad to see that there are so many readers and even writers on the forum (based on other threads and polls).

One of my favorite authors of all time would be Thomas Pynchon. And my favorite non-fiction subject would philosophy in general with special interest in existentialism and humanism. Though I have a large interest in belief systems in general including all forms of ritualized religion. While I love romance stories on film, somehow they don't attract me so much in fiction. Though put that in a period piece like Emma or Pride and Prejudice and you've got me hooked, sheesh do I love Jane Austen.

I picked Technical/Scientific and Humor, but a Star Trek novel will grab my attention and not let it go until I've read it cover to cover.  ;D I really should read more sci-fi.

I marked other, I read mostly outdoor adventure novels, and non fiction events dealing with the outdoors, mountain climbing, backpacking,, trail hiking, survival stuff. etc.

heh. I read screenplays and instruction manuals. I'm fairly well read, for a high-school dropout, but I do not have the time anymore.
I used to read a lot of Philip K Dick. Time Out Of Joint...

I didn't see horror as an option, which is my favourite genre. I'll read just about anything, but I'm always looking for some good horror or speculative fiction (as oppose to science fiction).
