Spokane LGBT community frustrated with blood donation policies

A KREM 2 viewer posted on our Facebook page that a transgender male who appeared as a woman was recently denied as a blood donor in the Spokane area, which sparked our crews to dig deeper into local blood centers' donor regulations.  It's unclear where that person tried to give blood, but the Inland Northwest Blood Center says any place collecting donations must follow the same policy.

Cool, a story from my stomping grounds.

I don't know which of our locals tried to give blood and was turned down. Now I am currious who it was.

I do know Matt Cannon and he is a wonderful dude. He is on the local BOD and the guy who makes sure the doors are open when we have our bi monthly IRL trans support group at the LGBT center.

yeah, this spoke volumes to me too. I was recently denied blood donation because I am trans. Sad.

They believe that 'trans woman' means you are a man, and as you want to be a woman you obviously sleep with men....

Seems they are making a lot of assumptions.
