Adrian St. Vincent, a transgender 18-year-old estranged from his family in Ohio, arrived in New York City this summer with no support, no home and no more than $250.

When he went to a shelter for LGBT youth, he was put on a waiting list - where he remained for more than three weeks.

"It's like you're a person without a country," said St. Vincent, who spent a night in Bryant Park. "I cannot describe how terrifying that was."
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde
