DENVER - Everyone has their favorite toys, no matter what age they are. For 7-year-old Bobby Montoya, it's Brats, Barbies and Strawberry Shortcake.

"I like girl stuff," Bobby said.

Bobby is a 7-year-old boy. His mother refers to him as a "he," but Bobby dresses and behaves like a girl.

Recently, Archuleta wanted to sign Bobby up for Girl Scouts. His older sister did it, and Bobby really wanted to join. Archuleta told 9NEWS when she brought Bobby to register, a troop leader told her Bobby couldn't join.

The Girl Scouts of America has released a statement that welcomes boys into the organization as a growing number of transgender boys have shown an interest in joining. The statement comes after a 7 year old Colorado boy, Bobby Montoya, went their local Girl Scout registration and was was denied by a troop leader because of his gender. Montoya's mother, Felisha Archuleta, says that Bobby prefers living as a girl and wanted to follow in his sister's footsteps and join the Girl Scouts.

Young Bobby told 9 News that he felt like the denial was denying him of his chosen gender and made him feel bad.

Girl Scouts of Colorado quickly retracted the troop leaders denial and released the following statement:

The Girl Scouts of Colorado has flip-flopped on its refusal to allow a prepubescent, transgender boy to join its ranks.

The leader of a Girl Scouts troop in Denver initially told 7-year-old Bobby Montoya that he couldn't join because, "he has boy parts."

But the organization had a change-of-heart, telling KUSA-TV in Denver, "Girl Scouts is an inclusive organization and we accept all girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade as members.
