I have noticed watching some American (as in from the USA, not the continents in general) TV shows that there are certain words they don't seem to be allowed to broadcast that seem strange to me. For example all religious content seems to be censored, you apparently can't say god on TV there, people seem to say gosh instead, and hell becomes heck. Yet words like bastard and bollox (hiberno-english spelling) are apparently fine.
Is the religious aspect of US culture really that concerned with blasphemy when they have a GOD channel?? I can't seem to wrap my head around the strange treatment of words as almost the reverse of how it is in Europe. For reference on how much of a non issue it is even in Catholic Ireland see our favourite show from the 90's, and still an all time great Father Ted.

Some of you probably don't a lot of the running jokes throughout the clip but I think it demonstrates the attitude of TV here towards language and deference. Just thought I'd share that little observation
