I was curious to know how drinking alcohol might effect emotions/mental state while on hrt? Not so much while intoxicated, but more so the after effects and how previously being intoxicated might effect your mental state throughout the days afterwards. Thanks!

I drink on HRT.  I get drunk faster with less.  It probably has to do with muscle and weight loss.

I haven't noticed a huge emotional change on HRT.  I get less anxious, but that's it.

Drunk and life are pretty much the same...body  and body mind are different.

Just my two cents and I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do. We have to remember that we going through transition are basically going through a second puberty. I will be 48 in a few weeks and I know the HRT is very hard on my body. I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. I want to give the estrogen the best chance at a clean body. I know for some the use of things helps us cope. I would encourage all of my sisters and brother to try and abstain as much as possible. Give your body a chance.

Hugs,

Great advice Isabella. I agree. Don't do drugs people. But we are going to be on HRT for the rest of our lives so I doubt that all of us will be able to abstain that long, LOL. Drink in moderation, like me. ;)

I have been on a full transition regimen closing in on two years and have drank a glass of wine or beer Sunday through Thursday, 3 mixed drinks on Friday and Saturday for probably 20 years. Hormones have not made any apparent difference on the way alcohol affects me. HRT has been a godsend in terms of bringing my gender dysphoria under control, but neither me or my wife have have noticed any other psychological affects.

I'm a college student and have been On hrt for a year and about 4ish months. Im 21 and drink just as much as other college girls (maybe 2 or 3 nights a week) I can't consume nearly as much as I use too (lost about 30 lbs, I weigh about 130 now, hrt plays a big role too) I have significant mood swings since estrogen. I dont think alchohal has been the soul cause, but definitely a contributer. Ive definetly been that girl crying in the bathroom on occasions (what girl hasnt though?) most of my girlfriends realize hrt is a lot like puberty so they are super helpful. I guess I really havent paid attention to moods after alchohal, I feel like I would've noticed though.

I think some drugs get a bad wrap compared to alcohol (which is probably the most destructive out of anything I've ever tried,) but otherwise, I agree with moderation.

I only recently started to really drink. I've been on hormones for about 10 months now. About 3 months ago, started escalating my drinking (from about 1 to 2 drinks a year to about 5-6 per week). No emotional effects I've noticed and I drink to get drunk.

You all are going through puberty again.  That with the weight losses I read already on this thread will enable you to get drunk quicker.  Ease up a little on the drinks, the HRT is changing your emotional state as it is and it is easier for the alcohol to cause you to say and do things you'll regret!
