WASHINGTON (ABP) – Three Baptist groups released a joint statement Oct. 11 calling for action to stop a series of shootings and violent attacks targeting transgender victims in Washington, D.C.

Leaders of the Alliance of Baptists, the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists and Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America called on community leaders to stop a "blight of violence and hatred" against transgender victims in the nation's capital.

Quote"It is appropriate to remind ourselves that the defining of any group of persons as 'other' in such a way as to make violence toward and/or oppression of them acceptable is contrary to the gospel of Christ," the Baptist leaders said.

It's refreshing to see someone point that out.  As obvious as it is, it seems to fail to register with so many people who claim to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.
When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

Hopefully this will extend to the Southern Baptist Convention as well...one day!

It was vicious, disgraceful, disgusting -- the perps, the people who failed to intervene to stop it, the whole nasty episode. The attackers need a good long stay in jail. That said, there is no indication whatsoever that it was a racially motivated attack, although that seemed to be the general view on here early on. It appears the fact that the victim was transgendered person using the women's restroom may have factored in the motivation of the attackers, but not her raceThey should go to jail for a long time for their vicious act of violence. I know of no libs who would fail to condemn these people for what they did. That's a straw man you put out there, dsum. However, I can easily imagine the Westboro Baptist Church group posting bail for the attackers and picketing outside the courthouse with signs fully supporting what they did.
