Sam(my)I am

Well I hate to post a woe is me thread, but lately everything seems on standstill.
I came out to my mum and extension my step-dad, and now it's pretty much trying to seek any psych help to start some actual progress and I have.
I just got a number for a place came in about a month ago from a bigger organization. The trouble is I have no idea what to say when I call or anything I know it sounds silly but I'm not good with calling a place at random. I feel rather frustrated because I'm so close yet I just don't know what to say or ask about at all Y-Y so close to some actual progress but I feel rather far away.

Is there anything you guys can suggest to say or ask about when I call?

First off you call and ask for an appointment.

It is pretty much just that simple.  The people who take your calls do not (and cannot) ask about what you are seeking a therapist for.

Since you have not been there before you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire when you first arrive.  Then you will go into your first session where you tell them what your issues are.  This may be covered to some extent in the questionnaire (are you depressed, are you suicidal, have you attempted suicide, are you on street drugs).

If you know the name of the place, you might try looking them up on the web to see if they have therapists that deal in gender issues.  If not you *could* ask when you call but that is up to you.

If possible you want a therapist that has gender issue training and preferably one that follows WPATH guidelines.

Depending on the office, you can just send them an email. For me, it was much simpler to set up an appointment/ask about gender issues, when I didn't have to identify myself over the phone or in face.

Whatever you do, make sure to set up an appointment! (and don't even think about skipping it!) I know that from my experience once the appointment was set, my anxiety melted away.
