Religious leaders ask commissioners to reconsider

The question of 'what Jesus would have done' the night the Largo City Commission voted to fire Steve Stanton is at the heart of a protest being organized by an interfaith coalition of Tampa Bay religious leaders.

The Rev. Abhi Janamanchi, pastor of the Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater, devoted his Sunday sermon to the topic of discrimination.

"The message of Jesus was love of God and love of neighbor; it was a message of compassion, inclusiveness, and radical hospitality. How does this action by the Largo City Commission comply with Jesus' commandment to 'love thy neighbor'," said Janamanchi.
