Director Brett Ratner has issued a fresh apology to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community for using a homophobic slur during a recent media event.

Ratner expressed his remorse after coming under fire for the insensitive remark made at a movie question-and-answer session with fans last week, but he didn't stop there - as a result of the uproar the inappropriate comment caused, he decided to resign as co-producer of the 84th annual Academy Awards on Tuesday.

Is everyone in Hollywood a big fat hypocrite? According to the conservative blogosphere, the answer is a resounding yes. A host of critics on the right are saying that the Academy has gone way overboard in firing--whoops, make that accepting Brett Ratner's resignation--as the producer of the Oscars for his comment that "rehearsal is for ->-bleeped-<-s."
