Ok, so Im trying to find a good weight to be at. I'm currently 5'7''ish and 145lbs with a BMI of 22.

I use to weigh 175lbs when I started HRT. Bloody weight gain. Lol. So really I'm trying to figure out a good weight where I look feminine but not anorexic. I was thinking about running, but I'm afraid that I might loose breast size.

Just curious what others think about weight, bmi and training for trans.

Thank you ;)

For the BMI, the scales are all you need... But BMI is universal, whilst body types are not. Big bones and muscles mean you can be heavier whilst still being healthy, and vice versa for the contrary. A doctor should be able to give you a more advanced BMI scale adapted to your body type. From that, just stay in the "healthy weight" area.

Sometimes, being a little (A LITTLE) underweight is okay if you base yourself on an universal scale, but if you get a customized scale, you should never leave the healthy weight area.

My opinion would be to aim for the lower area of the healthy area without leaving it, since it's easy to accidentally gain weight and go into the overweight area, but the contrary is much more rare.

Generally, silhouette-wise, the general opinion is to try to get as close as possible to an hourglass shape (hips > waist). So the ideal is to have sufficient fat on your hips. So again, not too thin.

As for your universal BMI right now, I think it's quite all right. You COULD lose some weight if you think it'd make you feel better, but you're really okay. But I don't know how your bones and muscles are.

I hope it helped.

Well that totally depends on where you want to be and where you are in transition.

Okay, convential wisdom simply says 18 < your BMI < 25, and really it is a big range and depends on your preference but that isn't the whole picture.

Like, I'm also around 22 right now (5'5/135) but I am still a little more muscular than I would like to be, because I'm pre-HRT. So for me, ideally, I would like to get down to like 20 (120lbs) until I can get on hormones, then go back up a little when gaining weight from HRT.

BMI is kinda a bad measurement though because it is very general. You should focus on the bodyfat% that you want. And again that should be different at different parts of transition, IMO. Like, in full boymode, you might just look chubby at 18% bf. I know I would. Years into HRT though that would be on the low side.

I think the most important part though is that it's better to start low and if you look too scrawny, gain weight with HRT or after you have already been on HRT for a while, so you get better results with the fat storage.

If you're trying to not look anorexic, I would not recommend running  :)
