Hello! So I really hope that none of you are offended by my being here. I say that because I am not transgendered, homosexual and I dont crossdress. I am here because I am writing a paper for a class (I'm a sophomore in college) about Sex Reassignment Surgery. I came upon this site when I was reading the globs of information on the internet about this surgery. I have been reading so much and I have learned a lot but when I saw that this was like a discussion board I thought it would be great to talk to some people who have had this surgery. I want to learn more and be able to present to my class the facts not just what some random people decided to put on a website that is not necessarily true and its more than likely not personal. So some of the questions I have to answer are:

What is needed in society for anyone to function as an individual who has gone through this or is going through this?

Sociologically how difficult is this before/after? Environmentally?

If you ladies would like I help I would greatly appreciate it. The only bad thing is this paper is due on Tuesday (March 27th)...So I would still love to get the answers and talk to you...but I wont be able to use it in my paper. Thank you so much! I look forward to talking with you and understanding better:)

p.s. I'm a social work major so I think its very important that i learn as much as I can so that I can better understand and help my clients

QuoteWhat is needed in society for anyone to function as an individual who has gone through this or is going through this?
The freedom to be left alone. By that I mean that all freedoms really center around being left well alone. To be unhindered in one's progress through life. The problem is often many governments want to wriggle their fingers into the procedures and personal lives of transgendered people. And sometimes for the worse. Then another part of this would be the freedom of those being left well alone, to be allowed to defend their rights to life, liberty, and property. All too often, transgendered people are deprived of life through murder, deprived of liberty through laws against their person or laws that grant businesses a superior status to an individual, deprived of property through the prior two deprivations therein.

This depends greatly upon who we're talking about. A transsexual person can have it easy if they're lucky to have a good employer or to be sufficiently self-employed. If they're not so lucky, their entire world before and even after will be a torrent of uncertainty. Sometimes a loss of a job can occur. Sometimes a loss of friends and family as well. This is all fairly well known, but I believe I'll leave it to others to expand this point better than I.
