Anybody had a laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy on the NHS?

If anybody has, could they give me more info please, anything would be helpful, such as which hospital/surgeon/length of inpatient stay/respect for your gender identity etc.

Thank you

Are you talking full keyhole or laparoscopically assisted? Or asking after both?

I had a keyhole-assisted hysto on the NHS, my first op since my ovaries were such a mess. More on that later, but for now:

Surgeon - Mr Barnett
Hospital - Harrogate District

By the time I got to see this guy, I'd already started the transition process via my GP; all this stuff about my ovaries kicked off alongside this. So he looked at my records (which mentioned my trans status), looked at me and said "Well, you're going to have this op eventually, I'd rather get them all out now since there's so many problems." His only hang-up was my lacking a formal diagnosis, so I went to see Dr Curtis since I know what the NHS can be like. Barnett was happy with a private diagnosis and we went ahead with the op. I was warned beforehand that, depending on things like state of organs, he might have to go the abdominal route, but thankfully all went to plan.

Three nights is the max time he likes to keep you in, but since I was recovering so well, they tried to discharge me in two - only reason I stayed was 'cause Mum had no time to make arrangements for me to get picked up. But regarding which room I was to be kept in - Barnett asked me what I'd prefer, telling me the pros and cons of male vs female ward (no gyno-specific help available in men's ward was his only concern, mind you). When it came to the actual day, I found I'd been put in a room on the private suite ^_^

I will say some of the nurses saw me as female - one told me how it's normal to feel down after a hysto - despite my name saying "Mr" outside my room, but that was the only thing - and one I was prepared to let go considering it was essentially a female op. But all the staff were very good - Mum was even impressed when she visited. Harrogate does have a really good rep though, and it also helps that it's just up the road from Leeds ^_^

Is that any help? Or did you want some more info?

That is a help. I think we're talking full keyhole, although obviously that will depend upon surgeon and also hoping that all is well internally after over two years of T. Basically my clinic are applying for funding for my hysto and they asked me to provide a surgeon's name. I thought they'd give me the options, not the other way around.
