I've noticed a lot of body modifications on a good lot of us members... I thought I'd ask for a general discussion about any stories one may want to share.. favorite mod, what hurt the most, stories about tattoos or something.... im a blank canvas so to speak.. (no tattoo's) I have 3 earrings each ear and had a tongue ring... but took it out cuz the ba$tard chipped my front tooth.. anyhow, don't make me feel lame by not posting all you people!! :)

I did stretch my exes ears once.. waaay too much. We were hella drunk out of hot topic in the mall and he got 1/8in when he was like waay smaller than that... So to cut a long and gory story short (complete with poping sounds and gushing blood) we were shortly thereafter both drunk and covered in blood... surprised mall cops didn't follow us around.. (i had bloody hands, he had blood from ear to neck)... It seemed like a good idea at the time I suppose...  In retrospect, no so much....

Well since I asked for a forum for this specific type of topic I guess I have to post.

Hmmm, I have to pick just one ???

Probably my phoenix tattoo on my left leg.  The phoenix has LONG been one of my spirit protectors (even in dreams when I was younger).  I think it is also a great symbol for transpeople.  We burn away all the traces of our old lives and are able to stretch our wings to fly.  I had a custom design done by a local tattooist (and our favorite now).

Now my wife's favorite body modification of mine?  My tongue piercing  >:-)

Her favorite of hers would be her customized dragonfly.  She had that same artist take a dragonfly design she had created and clean it up.  She has it on her upper left arm.

I've always loved body mods, but been way too uncomfortable with my own body to get any, so everything is pretty new, and also kind of important to me - reclamation efforts or something, like markers on my flesh saying "this is MINE now!"
I agree 100% about it being an ownership issue. I spent entirely too long having all of my decisions made for me and being guided down a specific path.  I swear that you could probably fit the definition of a cult to my family. I've wanted the stuff I got since my teens (20+ years) but until I stopped being a puppet it wasn't even something I could talk about.

And now it isn't just saying this is mine vs yours, but also saying this is the REAL me.

Let's try to keep this thread alive since it doesn't look like we'll have a separate forum based on the low traffic. If some one can't pick a favorite then just pick one randomly. It was really hard to pick a specific single item since I have three tattoos (1 a WIP) and over 10 piercings.

I have lobe piercings, a helix in my left, and an industrial in my right. I also just got my first tattoo today: my name in Hebrew on my left lower back (basically this: שרה, but fancier). I've always loved body mods, but been way too uncomfortable with my own body to get any, so everything is pretty new, and also kind of important to me - reclamation efforts or something, like markers on my flesh saying "this is MINE now!"

The lobes I got not long after I went full time. The industrial is to commemorate my facial surgery. The tattoo is obviously for my name change. The helix is a little older, pre-transition. I got it when I finally finished my education. I have a complicated relationship with education.

I'll be getting my tongue pierced after my SRS in March, and a larger tattoo along my ribs for the end of my transition. I'm also kinda sad I never got anything when I started HRT, so maybe I'll eventually add something to mark that.

Um... the tattoo is my favourite so far, I'm kind of pain insensitive, and I don't really have any interesting stories. Oh, other than my parents being vastly more horrified when I told them I was getting a tongue piercing, than when I told them I was getting SRS. I found it kind of funny anyway.

Wow!! We need pictures, sounds awesome!
Just never get a metal tongue ring... I had a really cool skull with red eyes, and I clinked my front tooth and got a large piece chipped off of it... grrr.. :/

If you do a ring nose might be fairly masculine, a stud to me is more feminine, but it is your body.

I used a ring when my nose was pierced for better healing but with my snakebites it was too much and I switched within the week.  I have a stud in now and love it.

I really like the way lip piercings look and they hardly hurt at all. I use rings, but a stud would be much more masculine (spikes maybe?)

Eyebrow did not hurt at all. Easily the least painful (while an industrial was the worst for me).

I really like them too, but I can't get one. It would screw me for work. I have to stick to the more "acceptable" piercings. S'okay, I can still admire 'em on others.
Here, crappy low-res pic:

Thats neat.. no idea what my name in Hebrew would look like.. maybe i will go into wordpad and put it on the Hebrew font and see... LMAO!

That is actually pretty cool.  Sometimes a script can look "plain", but because it is Hebrew it looks exotic.

I've got plans for a non-english script too but it isn't next on my list.  I'm planning each of the five elements for my limbs/neck.  I have fire (phoenix) and air (celtic knot work butterfly).  The sleeve I'm working is earth (crystal center piece).  I've got a plan for water that I'll elaborate on when I finish up my sleeve.  I'm going to use the back of my neck for spirit.  It will be an ankh with "hemet" on the left arm and "Bast" on the right arm.  Roughly translated with some liberties as priestess of Bast.

What are you planning to symbolize your transition?

I'm thinking about adding a tree of life (roots and limbs form an almost mirror image) when I get my SRS.  The usual meaning is "As Above, so Below", but I think it would be a nice twist to also let it symbolize "As Inside, so Outside"

I have 4 piercings per ear (3 lobes 1 helix), when my body is hot I want a belly ring. I got crazy and stretched my ears to 00 before, figured out they don't look good on me so I took them out and they closed back to normal (thankfully) :P
I'm not into tats tho. dont think I'll ever get one

Dayummm. I love your tattoo, it's beautiful.

I don't have any body mods except for a single earlobe piercing, and that totally doesn't count. ::) I'm thinking of either getting small plugs or piercing my right eyebrow (studs, not a ring), but I'm not sure if I can pull it off. Do y'all think eyebrow piercings are feminine? Someone once told me they were, and while I don't mind being a little femme I don't want something that will make me feel uncomfortable down the line.

Morgan.

Body modification has been a big part of my life for a while now, I got my first piercing when I was 12. I'm 17 now and will possibly be an apprentice piercer in the next few years. I currently have snakebites, my tongue, my septum and my nape pierced. I also have my ears stretched to 26mm. I've previously had my bridge, both sides of my nose, double spiderbites, angelbites and a vertical labret. I wish I still had a few of those, but due to all different circumstances they had to come out :(

I also (stupidly) got a home job tattoo on my wrist of a Triforce in tribute to the Zelda game series. I don't regret my choice of tattoo, I just wish I had been more patient and gone to a professional, and not have gone to the beach 2 days later. I got pushed into the water and because the fresh ink was exposed to the salt water and a few hours of a butt load of sun, a layer of ink scabbed off and some parts of the tattoo look uneven/not filled in correctly. Hopefully I can get that redone soon :)

Nathan.

I love body mods! At the moment all I have are stretched lobes, both 17mm. When I started stretching I was just going to go to 8mm, then my goal was 16mm and now I have no idea where i'm going with it. I've previously had my eyebrow pierced twice, my septum twice, a labret and an orbital in my left ear. My next mod will be a scalpelled septum, I did want it punched but they guy I want to go to would prefer to scalpel it. I've wanted it for years now but i've not been able to justify spending that amount of money on it, it's especially tough at the moment but if I get any money at xmas it's going towards my septum, I was going to go to about 5/6mm but now i'm thinking 8mm.

How bad were the dermal anchors?  My local shop can't do them because of TN law, but we've talked about it a couple of times.  I've seen some really nice ones, but it is more of a curiosity right now.

Not bad at all, similar to a piercing in that its over really fast, but there's alot more pressure from the jewelry insertion than a piercing.

Did they use a biopsy punch or scapel?

I saw a REALLY nice one the other day, a cisgirl had it at the top of her cleavage.  Of course it wouldn't work unless you had cleavage, but it was a cool effect.
