From the age of four Jackie Green knew she was a girl trapped in a boy's body. Rod McPhee meets the courageous Leeds woman who, on her 16th birthday, became the youngest person in the world to have a sex change.

She was born 18 years ago with all the physical characteristics of a boy and her parents named her Jack, but from being a toddler she acted like a girl.

She always wanted to wear girls' clothes and play with girls' toys.

From then on her life became more and more difficult until eventually her parents made the decision to pay for Jackie, as she was known by that time, to have £28,000 of treatment and complete gender reassignment surgery.

She was the youngest patient in the world to go through the procedure.

Yet another "The youngest in the World" to have SRS? I thought Kim Petras was the Youngest, according to Media.
Which, by the way, weren't correct either, as the yongest sexchanger is apparently a Thai-transsexual that had SRS at 15 many years ago.

Nonetheless, I am genuinly happy for the young transitioners sake, that they nowadays can be whom they want almost from the start and not being forced to endure the horrors of Puberty.

She is a remarkably feminine 18-year-old woman – long, thin legs, bright eyes, soft voice and slender shoulders.

The results of undergoing any kind of gender transition could, you might expect, be more of a compromise. But in Jackie Green's case it isn't.

But she was fortunate. Thanks to early treatment she has been able to secure the best outcome at the earliest opportunity.

Not enough can ever be said about the benefits of early transition.  And there should be more said about the cost, emotionally, financially and physically, of waiting until after puberty does its work.  I wonder how many people would take a wait and see approach regarding that cancerous tumor or that skin infection that just keeps getting worse.

"Okay, it's a tumor, but it's not very big so I'll just wait and see if it gets any worse."  Sure.

But there also has to be acknowledgement that not all trans girls like playing with dolls nor do all trans boys like playing with trucks.  What we can see only tells part of the story and sometimes that story is the child was strongly conditioned to avoid things that don't fit the gender stereotype of their birth gender.

Facing life as a man was so unbearable for Jackie Green she tried to commit suicide four times and even attempted to slice off her own genitals.

But now Jackie, who became one of the youngest people in the world to have a sex change at the age of 16, is embracing her new life as a woman and has revealed she has a boyfriend.

The teenager, now 18, was born Jack, but since she was a toddler she acted like a female, wearing girls' clothes and playing with girls' toys.
