Hello I am new to this site and would like to share my experience and frustration with Alberta healthcare!

I was lucky enough to receive funding to get a vagina-plasty with dr Brassard and Belanger back in September...
Everything went well until the dreaded sits bath OMG pain and pressure on my poor puss was so traumatizing.
I also found it may have caused the beginning of my labia stitches ripping:squatting over a toilet...why?

Then after I in recovery in my fathers home it the stitches come out more..so i call the recovery and I am sent to er-why I dont know even the gyno didnt know what was going on ...yes i was swollen but not infected...but they thought i was infected and told the drs as such...so i was told to stop dialations...which i didnt just went down to once a day...then i am told i cant get stitched back up until i am completely healed...i continued to dialate once a day until the drs said it was ok to return to more often but by the time that happened the canal closed up shop...so now I KNOW i have to go back...

now im back home for two months and still waiting to see a gyno for a referral to go back I cant afford anything else as a low income person...i hope i am the first and the last person to go through this...i believe there should be more education about post op care for drs in ers...(yes they treated me with dignity an respect but they were not educated well enough for them to properly care for me)
thank you for reading and possible feedback...
be well

Hi Jade,
Welcome to Susan's. I'm so sorry to hear of your complications after surgery. Without knowing the facts of the case, it's difficult to be of much assistance with your dilemma.

Have you no recourse to Dr. Bassard thoughout this post operative event? You mention you are back home for two months and still waiting to see a gyno for a referral.

Maybe it's just me. I find sitting on peoples doorsteps/waiting rooms till I get answers, generally works quite well; usually within 24 hours. I have only once slept overnight in a Drs. waiting room, after having told the hospital registrar he wasn't to proceed with a procedure on my daughter until I had consulted with my paediatrician.

I hope you are able to get some satisfaction soon. Keep in touch and let us know how you are coping. In the meantime, be safe, well and happy.
Lotsa huggs
Catherine

A bit late to tell you, but this is important advice for anyone approaching surgery.

With any post-op problems, one should consult with the surgeon who did the work, even if it's just a telephone call or an email with photos.
Your XY body will never stop seeing the neovagina as a wound which isn't in your body-plan.
Frequent dilation is ESSENTIAL during the first 3 months as this is the time that the body is trying its hardest to "repair the damage"

Contact your SRS surgeon if ANY problem causes interference with the specified dilation routine.
To those who understand, I extend my hand
To the doubtful I demand, take me as I am
Not under your command, I know where I stand
I won't change to fix your plan, Take me as I am (Dreamtheatre - As I Am)
I started out with nothing..... and I still have most of it left.

Not all true, your body will stop one day, it will take some time but one day it isn't a wound anymore.
I am for almost 30 years post op and did have different lesbian relationships for 18 years, we didn't use toys, I did not lose any dept.
Another nice thing is that the vagina will have mucosa inside, what makes lubrication not necessary anymore.

I must admit, I had a different procedure, there was no dilating, after the OK there was some hard piece of plastic left in the vagina, it had to stay there for a year, twice a day out for a few minutes, cleaning and back in, needles to say it was an heavy year, just sitting in a chair was not for fun but it was worth it.

The first years are the most important to keep the vagina open, when it's closed there is no other option than to go back to the surgeon.
I don't understand the doctors on the ER, I mean one can not know everything but there must be a possibility to ask a colleague who has the knowledge.
Sorry to hear you have so much trouble now.

I wish you strength in these hard times.

what is a sits bath?

I had the infcetions and its probably common an ddue to all the pre-op andd post-op antibiotics they give us...it was interesting to see how fast the spiky green balls of infection grew...finally killed them off with directly applied Canestan.

Can I ask what procedure you had and with whom and where you buy the plastic insert you used?
