Tennessee arrest illustrates legal difficulties for transitioning transsexuals

A recent arrest in East Tennessee points out the legal difficulties confronting transsexual persons as they go through the process of transition in many areas of the United States. A Morristown, TN woman recently found herself frustrated by one of the hundreds of such legal inconsistency.

Andrea Jones, who is in the process of a medically supervised transition from male to female, has had enough genital surgery to meet the requirements of the Social Security Administration to change her gender marker with the Federal government. However, state laws across the country are a patchwork of varying standards and requirements, sometimes even internally conflicting with other state laws in the same state.

We had a recent thread about this. I wish her the best of luck (especially since any changes she gets will also help me)

She is living in a rough area to be trans. She lives between me in the Tri-cities and Knoxville. Neither here nor Knoxville are good places but the in between areas are even worse.
