Killers of transgender people to get longer sentences

The Home Office has announced longer jail sentences for murders motivated by hostility to a transgender person.

In September this year Leon Fyle, 23, was jailed for life for the murder of Destiny Lauren, a pre-operative transgender person who worked as a prostitute.

The use of the term person is quite provokative from the BBC. If we ignore it, it could become a norm. If we mention it, we open ourselves up to oversensitivity.

'Are you saying this isn't a person?' sort of thing.

But nice to see this progress from the government. Also the recognition of some of the problems of transgender people.
