Kia Ora,

::) Are trans-women more inclined to suffer from narcissism than say trans-men ?

::) Ok it's healthy to love oneself in the sense of maintaining self worth/esteem[or if one likes to boost ones self confidence]...But do you think that some trans-women go just that little bit overboard with this self love thing-which tends to display a lack of empathy for others ? =The more one loves oneself the less room there is to love others... In my humble opinion this is bordering on full blown narcissism...I've seen this display/behaviour in some trans-women and no doubt some of you have come across the odd narcissistic trans-person or two ...

::) So what's your thoughts on narcissism and the trans-women ?

::) And do you think you have a healthy balance when it comes to self love? [I'm guessing this is going to be a hard question to answer honestly for a narcissist  ;) ;D]

::) I know that narcissism is a serious disorder that effects not only the narcissist but those who associate with them, but...There's always a funny side to things ;)

::) "Heard about the terrorist that hijacked a 747 full of narcissists? He threatened to release one every hour if his demands weren't met !"  ;) ;D

Kia Ora,

::)  "HOW TO SPOT A NARCISSIST !"

Tis said  conceited  people are narcissistic to the core,
and love being centre of attention-demanding more and more!

"You look lovely you look beautiful" to their reflection every day-
They constantly seek admiration...pushing others out the way!

How do I look-does this suit me-is my bum too big in this?
As they step closer to the mirror to give themselves a kiss!

Hey look at me don't I look great...I'm beautiful, I'm hot-
and when they spot a camera they must be in the shot!

Now to love ones self isn't bad...in fact it's really good.
it boosts ones self esteem and sometimes I think we should!

But narcissists only love themselves and expect others to love them too-
they never experience empathy when others are feeling sad and blue!

The nearest thing to empathy is the self pity they possess-
when you're feeling sad and blue-they worry more about their dress!

I'm sure you've met a narcissist...they are not difficult to pick-
they are normally the ones who stand out in a crowd...looking/acting like a d...!

::) My apologies to those readers who might think this poem is 'all' about them ! ;)

I don't think it's the case. I think some people just get to the point where they have to defend themselves, and they get guarded, because they've been attacked for being trans by their loved ones.

Actually, Sevan said something in the androgyne forum that really resonated with me. Ze said, in essence, that when my family was asking me to choose between them and myself, they were asking me to choose between two people I loved. A family member and myself. Just imagine if two sisters you had were fighting and you had to choose, or if your parents put you in the middle. It's not an easy choice to make. I imagine many transpeople completely suffer at the thought of hurting the ones they love, and that is a major barrier to coming out. It was for me.

Kia Ora,

::) Actually Caseyyy, what you have mentioned has little to do with narcissism as such, it's more so to do when trans-people lock others out as a 'defense' mechanism ...Narcissism on the other hand is when they 'believe' the world evolves around them and them only...

Hm, that's the kind of behaviour that others have used to accuse me of being self-centered, so I assumed that was what you meant.

I don't think I've met anyone who actually believes the world revolves around them, though. Cis or trans. Except maybe my dad.

Kia Ora Caseyyy,

::) Being a child of a narcissistic parent is no fun either ! But then I'm not sure whether you're just displaying a bit of sarcasm towards your father ... ;)

::) Caseyyy, at times it can be quite hard for a trans-person not to come across to others as being a little self-centred especially when first venturing upon their journey of a life time,[ a journey of self discovery] but this is really just a means of 'self preservation' , again which is not a form of narcissism...

I personally think that narcissism only applies to people who hurt others. A person can be extremely stuck-up acting, self-absorbed, high-maintenence, and full of pride, yet can be exceptionally kind to everyone they meet and give back to the world for so many causes - a perfect example is Lady Gaga. It's called being happy, healthy, and successful - therapists labeling people with narcissism is a way to keep people from "excelling above the Master". Therapists want patients to feel guilty about material success and pride. But unless you hurt others, emotionally or physically, you are not by any definition narcissistic. Do not let anyone tell you that you are.

P.S. Also, there's a big difference between "hurting others" (purposely inflicting pain on people who are not bringing it on themselves because of their own stupidity) and "upsetting a narcissist". A narcissist is the person who hates you because their religion, an optional belief system that is not law, says so. A narcissist isn't the person who is trying to be what their chromosomes and brain regions are telling them to do, while outside narcissists get hurt by the process.

Think about it ![No doubt a good publicist can do wonders for ones public imagine] But still somewhat of an oxymoron don't you think ?

- therapists labeling people with narcissism is a way to keep people from "excelling above the Master". Have you actually met a narcissist by any chance? Therapists want patients to feel guilty about material success and pride.  ??? unless that is, you are saying the actual therapist is somewhat narcissistic !  But unless you hurt others, emotionally or physically, you are not by any definition narcissistic. True !
