As some of you know, my countdown has begun. I guess I'm just having trouble because I am scared out of my mind. It's not til the end of Feb, but I'm also getting a BA w/ Brassard at the same time!

It just hit me last night for the first time. I couldn't get to sleep even though I was super tired. All I kept thinking about was pain, blood, needles, all that fun stuff. I was feeling faint also.

How can I get over this? I have had my trach shave done and the worst part was the IV, but I wasn't this paranoid for it. I'm not sure what to do here, any advice before I give myself a heart attack?

Chrissi,

Sounds like you not afraid to have the SRS, but of surgery, needles, etc. Consider changing the subject title to something like ...Pre SRS Anxiety...HELP!...

Hi Chrissi

It is normal and totally understandable to be scared  :)  I think anyone who says they are not afraid when going into surgery is either lying or has a screw loose  :icon_crazy:

Remember, you have a very large support group pulling for you here at Susan's  :)  I'm sure you'll be fine

I hate getting those cannular things in the back of my hand but once its in I just blank the rest of the pain and mess off and wait for the day when I'll be able to see what good the operation has been - and I've had 9 ops in last 3 years, some gender and some accident stuff.

I've had a few surgeries as well, most recently was on my shoulder and I was scared  :-\  but I knew it had to be done... To deal with the fear I told jokes   The hospital staff seemed rather entertained and wondered how I could be so fearless  :)  If they only knew how scared I really was

If and when my day for SRS should come I know I'll be scared to death too, I'll darn sure be there early and ready to go though

It's totally to be expected.  Can you concentrate on the end result, and what you want to do with your new toy. And who with? that sort of thing.

Wish I was going with you.

Very good advice, yes look beyond your surgery, all the advantages and benefits that you will finally have as a woman when your surgery is complete, it will be over before you know it, the lead up is the worse, then its over, the fantastic feeling just being a complete woman, having your BA at the same time is a double joy (excuse the pun) this time next year you'll wonder what all the fuss was about, I'II always remember my excitement when I had my BA, then my first boyfriend with my new toy, settling down to a new life as a girl, its all ahead of you Chrissi, enjoyed it

You'll be fine. Try to keep yourself occupied so you don't think too much about it.

I would say that depends very much on the surgery. I mean, some surgeries there is just no reason to be afraid of, so it is not that odd that she wasn't afraid when she, for instance, did the Trachea Shave.

However, having someone cutting up the croatch and filleting the d*ck, is, in my opinion, something fully natural to be afraid of, even if it is a life-improving surgery in the long run.
So, it is probably not the surgery itself or the outcome that she is scared of, but the cutting.
Nothing that she can really do about that, though, more than knowing that she will basically wake up the same moment she has closed her eyes(From her view), so atleast it will only last a second of her conscious. Maybe that can be of comfort to her.  :P

Chrissi,

I had my hysto done recently. Not the same, I know, but I was scared too. You bet I didn't sleep beforehand. One thing that helped me in the wee hours of the morning when I was really scared was watching videos on YouTube of guys who had just had theirs done. It helped, because after a while I saw that most of what they were talking about dealing with after the operation was just stuff that was obnoxious and irritating, not horrible and hurtful. And then I thought, well, I can handle obnoxious and irritating. It'll just be...obnoxious and irritating. And I felt better (though still not better enough to sleep). It also gave me a heads up about a few things about the hospital stay I would not have expected.

Hope you can find some peace. Best of luck.
