Another message about family

As I have written before, in all my years of transitioning, family has been a hard issue.  And I am now, working on being more open with them.  Having a soft heart and also being strong within myself to deal with their negativity.  It's very hard for me not to take their negative messages and give myself the same negative messages.  I am working very hard, at strengthing my inner man.  I am working on...being strong enough to reach out, with an open heart, but having the inner strength to let them rant...if they must. 
Not sure if anyone else has dealt with this before.  Would love some insight. 
And yes, I do this because these are people I care about.
