Paris, Tuesday, November 29, 2011 - Epidemiological studies on transsexuals (or rather, transgender) are rare to date. However, thanks to the commitment of some militant groups, a slow evolution tends to emerge. Witness to the will of the official health authorities to better understand the health issues associated with this population, the survey conducted by a team from INSERM and published last week in the Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin (BEH). In order to better determine the 'sociodemographic characteristics (...) the path of transition medicopsychological and HIV status "of the trans, various data have indeed been based on responses to a self-administered questionnaire, sent through associations, hospital staff and four a fifty practitioners.

I like the way they like to link us to HIV as of course we are all sex mad or prostituting ourselves.

In the same note though, it clearly points out that the French Healthcare system does not produce good enough results for SRS/GRS/GCS if 48% of patients report "complications".

err, no.. problem.

Over here in UK the original link has a google translation that works perfectly but when I put the link to that as above it only brings up the original with no translation option..  strange bit of Googlesharing perhaps.

basically it says as part of a national study of HIV rates of infection 381 TS replied with 73% MtF and 25% FtM but then only 53% of each said they identified as women and men respectively which no doubt confused the researchers unaware of the full spectrum of gender...especially as 23% of MtF classed themselves transwomen and 13% of the FtMs as transmen.
69% were under 50.
84% were French born and raised.
44% have university degress,
35% have children but doesn't say if fathered or mothered them.
84% of all had been to shrink for diagnosis and 85% use hormones.
6.9% have HIV but 17% of them that are prostitues have HIV
22% had surgical sterilization and 29% had sex reassignmnet surgery.  but 66% said they had gone abroad and presumably paid for their surgeries despite the French health servcie being quite good and EU legislation saying surgery must be made available on national health services.
58% who had national health surgery reported good treatmnet but 48% of these said they had surgical complications.
94% who had surgery in private clinics in France reported good treatmnet with only 17% reporting complications.
77% of those who went abroad reported good treament with 28% complications.

So the study shows the French National health system has to do the diagnosis, hormones and therapies and then the operations but makes the process a bit traumatic and the surgeons aren't as skilled or careful.

And to get best transition and surgeries it is best to be able to pay for private care in quality clinics.

I think these results would probably be equal to what we in UK would report and most other countries TS would report about the same figures and conclusions...unless perhaps France being a Catholic country with still a strong nationalistic/patriotic ethos that might see TSism as a lifestyle choice/perversions/freak etc.

The higher number of TS prostitutes with HIV might be explained by there being so many beautiful younger coloured TS prostitutes from France's former African, Pacicic and Caribean colonies where HIV is rife due to Catholica bans on condoms.

I had wondered if the French findings mirrored the rest of the EU and the UK. And hopefully we have some French members who will see this article and make some replies.

Once again, Thanks to Lilacwoman for taking the time to translate and post the study results! :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

surfing around trying to find rates of HIV for other sections of community took me to many other websites:

20% of gay men have HIV.
90% of third world does not have adequate safe-sex, sex disease info programs, condoms or treatments so HIV and diseases are rife.
23% of GGs who enjoy or allow anal sex don't use condoms.

UKs Journal of Sexual Medicine has report that Gspot is just a figment of imagination!  One of researchers was a woman so we have to wonder how good her sexual partners have been?   They quote lesbians as being more in touch with their Gspots too!
These dedicated researchers are going to follow their noses and continue looking for gspots.  How can I or any of you volunteer to be either a researcher or a subject to be researched?  :D

and finally one for the FtMs:  http://www.pridelife.co.uk/HEALTH/1413/Raising-a-child-as-a-gay-couple
etc etc.

most are men...operated on and pumped full of hormones:
mixed up piece about French transsexu al prostitutes
http://www.walnet.org/csis/news/world_2003/observer-030119.html

while reporter from Indonesia's Jakarta Post also went walking in the Bois de Boulogne and saw all the TS prostitutes but labels pre-ops TVs when some may have been somewhere else on the gender scale.
http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2005/08/28/039les-dames039-du-bois-de-boulogne.html

both articles mention the prostitutes as being foreign to France and so possible having the higher HIV rates.
Most men don't know they are HIV so thos ethat have been with the dames of  the Bois could be passing HIV around French society.

Good Question!

The 20% HIV rate does surprise me, had expected it to be higher, good thing its not.

And according to the CIA Factbook...South Africa, Nigeria, India, Kenya and Mozambique top the list of countries citizens/persons that are HIV positive.    https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2156rank.html
