Gen. Pace calls homosexuality immoral

WASHINGTON - The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said Monday he considers homosexuality to be immoral and the military should not condone it by allowing gay soldiers to serve openly, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Marine Gen. Peter Pace likened homosexuality to adultery, which he said was also immoral, the newspaper reported on its Web site.

"I do not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any way," Pace told the newspaper in a wide-ranging interview.

Pace, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a 1967 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, said he based his views on his upbringing.

He said he supports the        Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell policy" in which gay men and women are allowed in the military as long as they keep their sexual orientation private. The policy, signed into law by        President Clinton in 1994, prohibits commanders from asking about a person's sexual orientation.

"I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts," Pace said.

The newspaper said Pace did not address concerns raised by a 2005 government audit that showed some 10,000 troops, including more than 50 specialists in Arabic, have been discharged because of the policy.

With Democrats in charge of Congress, Rep. Martin Meehan, D-Mass., has introduced legislation to reverse the military's ban on openly serving homosexuals.

I think militarism is immoral - it's exploting the worst in human nature and male aggression. It also frequently requires murdering people. These people are really messed up for damning gays when a plank is sitting in their eye.

Wow. Pace thinks that two people loving each other is "immoral"? Wow. What is "immoral" about two people loving each other? Because honestly that is all that is a relationship should be about, no matter if it is two men, two women, or  a man and a woman.

So they got rid of 50 specialists who could actually read and write Arabic huh?  Cool. No wonder we don't know what the frak is going on over there.  We don't have anyone that can communicate!

The government always gets rid of or turns down help with the Arabic.  After 9/11 a segment of the American Jewish population, who were quite fluent in Arabic, offered to work for the .gov.  They were turned down.  Instead they took in others, some of who then turned out to be sympathetic to those we were fighting and intentionally screwed up translations.

General Pace has issued a statement expressing his regret about the remarks, saying he should not have elaborated on his personal, moral views.

"I should have focused more on my support of the policy and less on my personal moral views," he said.

Democrat Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the House of Representatives, says the military "should carefully consider changing their policy".

"We need the most talented people, we need the language skills, we need patriotic Americans who exist across the board in our population," she said.

"We don't need a moral judgment from the chairman of Joint Chiefs."
