Well I've sat outside for several minutes admiring the stars.

Used the new super dooper mossie repellent spray. I'm bitten on every area I sprayed.

I'm sure the little buggers will die from the chemicals, I will as well.

I've got reactions happening as I type.
I hate mosquitoes, what friggen use are they to anyone. Who in the whole food chain wants mosquitoes?

My ear is growing lumps, my hands are inflamed.

I HATE MOSSIES

And even my rant  didn't help, I deleted most of it by accident, which really pissed me off. I can't even rant
It's 40C at 1 am and I'm melting. I know you are sympathetic
The air conditioner  has turned off, and I can't sit out side without nature wanting to use me as a primary food source.

I hate mosquitoes.

I sooooo feel your pain. But right now we don't have mosquitoes in my part of the world. They don't like this frickin' cold weather!

I used to have a BAD mosquito problem inside my house.
they were coming in from somewhere, but that whole month of being constantly bitten whether I was awake or asleep was terrible.

Using up 4 cans of raid solved that problem though.
oh and LOTS of calamine lotion and OFF.

I feel your pain Cindy because I live near a swamp and they get so bad sometimes.

To answer your question, starting at the bottom: Fish and reptiles eat the mosquito eggs and hatchlings in the water. Dragonflies and many other insects eat the mature mosquito as well as birds and bats and frogs and...so many others depend on them for food, unfortunately for us.
This is why I don't use any poisons on them because I am afraid of hurting all those that depend on them. Besides like you said, they still bite no matter what repellent you use. ??? And they just love you because you're so sweet. ;)

Cindy.

A couple of years ago, I had a small infestation of cat fleas from our late cat.

Like you, I don't like these chemicals at all and won't use them. But I did a load of research and discovered that, apparently, most insects have a very keen sense of smell and hate some smells.

It a matter of experimentation really. The strong smells like garlic are obvious. But others that work with many insects include, Rosemary, Catnip, Basil and many others. The problem is, each type of insect seems to be sensitive to some more than others, so you absolutely have to experiment.

It's best to get oil essence of these plants and dilute it, a few drops in something like surgical spirit. The put in a sprayer. Never put oil essence directly onto skin. Once diluted, it can be safely sprayed onto much of you. Including your hair!

It certainly worked on those fleas. As a repellent to stop them biting. I got rid of them by vacuming. It seems that fleas like most insects are actually creatures of habit. They tend to stick to certain areas. Fleas like to sit in shadowy areas, such as the edge between furniture and carpets. They do like carpets.

I have absolutely no doubt that mosquitoes will be basically the same. A bit more mobile and actually getting rid of them is impossible. But they can be repelled with smell.
