Nice video, Samuel Johnson's moral writings make this point often, about the illusory nature of fear, but also hope. (He describes it in a wonderful poem 'On the Death of Mr Robert Levett' as "Hope's delusive mine". http://www.online-literature.com/samuel-johnson/johnsons-poetical-works/17/)

Samuel Johnson, however, also makes the point about how appealing it is to live not in reality, that our non-temporal souls inside our temporal body cry out for more then can satisfy them. That most of life is filling in the gaps of life, waiting out the time.

It is the sensible regulation of both imagination and reason that leads to an enjoyed life - something Johnson himself had enormous difficulty with.

There is a very good book about his moral writing called Passionate Intelligence by Ariel Sachs. I review it in my blog here http://grubstreetlodger.blogspot.com/2011/11/passionate-intelligence-by-ariel-sachs.html

Kia Ora,

::) Thank HG and I hope you're taking on board what you have been posting...

::) "When the student is ready the teacher will appear !"

::) I liken Buddhism and Hinduism[perhaps to a lesser extent]  to an 'instructions manual' for the mind ...

::) A simple way for one to see for oneself what Sadhguru is on about is to sit quietly for a few minutes and focus your attention upon an object, see how long you can stay focused before other thoughts gradually begin to dominate, dragging the awareness away from the object["Umm I wonder what so and so is doing?" or "Why am I sitting here ?" or "What's on TV tonight ?" or[my favourite ] "I hope this doesn't turn me into a Buddhist or Hindu!" ;) ;D  ...The 'object' in this case  is 'reality' as it 'is' and the thoughts begin to distort reality, creating the illusion-the façade around it ...

Sadly the "Now" is the thing that many 'fear' ! A paradox of a kind !

An easy entrance into the NOW as a spiritual path might be Eckhart Tolle.

Kia Ora Andre,

::) It's true, Eckhart does have a way with words, being able to explain things in simple layman's terms...'The Power of Now' as been doing its round s for quite a while 'Now'[excuse the pun]...

::) But I do like the way Sadhguru liken fearing what does not exist to 'insanity', he really hit the nail on the head with that one...
