Having become more "politically involved" of late, saw this in
Republican email inbox and simply couldn't resist. Actually I feel the debate on "marriage in general" is getting wayyy out of hand especially as it seems to only relate to "privileges" afforded. Mind I am NOT in agreement at all with the following but was curious what others think on the topic at hand.
Quote
1) Gay marriage is incompatible with Christianity (and for that matter, Islam & Judaism). If someone asks you why you oppose gay marriage, the only thing you really have to say to explain it is, "I'm a Christian."
God doesn't condemn anyone for who he is; so if you're attracted to the same sex, that absolutely, unconditionally doesn't make you bad, evil or "un-Christian." On the other hand, let me note that I do consider hating, tormenting, or bullying people because of their sexual orientation to be distinctively "un-Christian" behavior. As Billy Graham has said, "God will not judge a Christian guilty for his or her involuntary feelings." However, God has drawn a clear line in the sand when it comes to homosexual acts. If you're gay, you're not allowed to act on it. If that seems harsh or unfair to you, well, sorry, but you'll have to take it up with God. It's His rule. ( yea! RIGHT ! )
"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is an abomination." -- Leviticus 18:22
(ie: indeed one could alternately easily interpret this as "not lie with more than ONE" )
http://townhall.com/columnists/johnhawkins/2012/02/17/five_reasons_to_oppose_gay_marriageGiven the current slump in people getting married at all, waiting until older and the divorce rate being what it is now-a-days I am increasingly of the opinion that "christians" are certainly no fine example to be emulated and perhaps the whole concept of "legally married", as in current practice of having to get "a license", ought to be REVAMPED or SCRAPPED ENTIRELY as a consequence of it's tendency to unnaturally encourage economic dependence and subjugation upon another's highly biased, often more "arbitrary rule".
I fail to see how a "legally binding contract", with the possible exception of when kids are produced & involved, is a true "expression" of anything, be it "love, commitment" or alledged "til death do us part" ? It'd probably be more accurate to say most marriages are based on "over-active hormones" with us trans supposedly having a certain advantage in that dept for sure !
These so-called "christians" are so full of BS: apparently "sexual perversion" (see quote below) is OK as long as "a man" DOES IT with "a woman" but nobody else? I can see back in "Old Testament days" where perhaps not wasting and spreading "seed" in favor of basic human survival of the human race was important but i really don't think we have those same issues today with abortion and population fast approuching what ? 9 MILLION PEOPLE ? If anything the destruction/extinction of the "human race" is threatened from just the opposite, another "limited amount of resources" quarter for sure !
The Bible also says ( Paul's "Principals for Marriage" in 1 Corinthians 7:1 ESV )
http://www.esvbible.org/search/1+Corinthians+7/ Quote
7:1 Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: "It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman." :2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband . . . :5-9 Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
Now as a concession, not a command, I say this. I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another.
To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion
.
Damn Self-serving Hypocrites ! Wonder how many hateful, "burning with passion" war-mongering "christians" are also, by profession, high paid divorce lawyers as well !(ps: just so ya's know: i DO consider myself a somewhat "right-leaning", card-carrying conservative mono-theist with a healthy respect for an authority outside of "my own" but as long as your "values" are not imposed or in any way impinge upon mine I feel every alternative choice of "lifestyle" is VALID and only wish more people would have and offer an OPINION as to HOW and WHY their particular choices are positive, healthy and worthy of respect & consideration by ALL ! )
