Do you support gay marriage?

What REALLY pisses me off is: in the 1960's only 20% of the population was in favor of interracial marriage but the supreme court stepped in protecting their civil rights. This time around, the civil rights of another minority are put up for popular vote.

It wasn't until the 80s that a majority of people favored legal interracial marriage.  One could easily argue it was in part due to the law that public opinion changed, but that change took a long time.  How someone like Gov. Christie of NJ (USA) could have the gall to say, essentially, that Blacks should have put their rights to a vote is beyond me, but that's what the argument about same sex marriage seems to bring out in some people.

?? AFAIK the supreme court ruled that all states HAVE to allow inter racial marriage. I don't think they are willing to make a ruling like this for gay marriage. Instead they keep putting it up for a popular vote. I just find it odd they (the government) now puts a minority rights issue up for popular vote.

I have read the Australian Federal  Marriage Act and could not find a definition of "man" or  "woman" in it.  That is the first thing I would look for as a point of proof in any prosecution for an offence under the Act.  I will pitch this to a lawyer if I can find a supportive one.

I am fully in support of Gay marriage and urge people to sign http://www.c4em.org.uk/. I however personally would rather like to see civil partnerships being extended to "straight" couples as well. I think that both should be open to anyone regardless of sex or gender!
