By GayNZ.com Daily News - 4th January 201211.00am: The makers of a controversial tv ad for tampons should have been more explicit that the subject of their humour was not a trans-woman, says Jaimie Veale of Genderbridge.

Veale herself believes the character was meant to be a drag queen, "but amongst the general public a lot of people do not understand the difference between drag queens and trans-women."

They could have made it supportive and humorous instead.  Shown that Transwomen might have one in their purse in case their girlfriends need them, or similar.  That would have been memorable for all the right reasons, and probably garnered awards, and been good PR too. As it is they have not come up smelling of roses, only what you put on them.

Brilliant! 2 items I plan to keep in my purse are...panty liners and...a couple of Tampons...good PR and divert attention...maybe

Well, again... I thought is was funny and the on-up t-girl just had it coming. In any case - how about hysterectomised natal females??
Would they carry tampons just for someone else's emergency?
I don't think so a minute. Then add to that all the natal girls with a fitted Mirena???

To be honest, I really don't see the importance of the gendervarianted status of the T-person in the commercial and whether it is a DQ or a transsexual.
I mean, firstly, it is not that transsexuals are "better" than DQ's or anything.

And, exactly how do one to 100% know whether someone is a DQ or a transsexual only by apparence, given that many transsexuals indeed carry the styles that is traditionally associated wirth DQ's and are quite "flamboyant" in their apparence?

I would say it is impossible to be 100% certain whether someone is a DQ or a Transgender/Transsexual, unleess you actually ask the person.
