The transgender star will pay his own way to gender reassignment surgery, he told the magazine.

Bono's publicist Howard Bragman told ABC News the reality star is considering the surgery when the time is right. "It's true, it's something he will consider at the appropriate time. But it's not something that is imminent and not something he believes will make him a man. He feels comfortable with his own masculinity."

The 42-year-old Bono's gender reassignment surgery was chronicled in the Emmy-nominated documentary Becoming Chaz. A follow up film, Being Chaz, focused on his now-ended 6-year relationship with Jennifer Elia and the controversy that surrounded his appearance on ABC's Dancing with the Stars.
Bono is surprisingly candid about such a personal decision in the interview.

Born Chastity, the son of '60s pop icons Sonny and Cher, Bono says he knew from an early age that he was born in the wrong body. Since going public in 2009, he has injected himself with testosterone, grown body hair and surgically removed his breasts.
Now, the "Dancing With the Stars" contestant has told Rolling Stone magazine that "within a short while he will finally be able to afford to get himself a penis."
