First of all, I love this class. Visual arts and theology are so important together. We've learned how to make icons, expressional pieces, abstract pieces. Etc. Tonight for homework, I had to make an expression self portrait that centers around my theology.

I am only 45% done and here is the work so far:

It's an expression self-portrait and since I respect all faiths that touches the divine, i incorporated various elements of multi religious icons into an earthy vine since I highly respect earth religions and under the firm belief that many of the world religions has had some roots in earth spirituality.

You can see the Petnagram, the Cross, the Muslim Star, the Yin and Yang, the Star of David as well as a feather from the cap which symbolizes the diverse Native American religions.

The witches cap is intentionally oversized and on my head as it plays a great importance in my own life as well as the two crosses on the stole.

I believe the ultimate form of religious respect is the ability to marry all religions while respecting their sufficient differences.

Hi Annah,

WOW !!!
What more can I say?

Apart from your excellent artistic skills (I never progressed much past the fried egg for the sun. lol) I am very impressed with your high order understanding of religion.

Your theology has the profound potential of furthering the ecumenical cause of all religions, and the sooner that happens, the better we all, will be. Bar none.

Keep up the impressive work. You are definitely raising the bar for humanity.

Be safe, well and happy
Lotsa huggs
Catherine

I think it's looking great! What are your mediums?
Last time I had an art class was high school and I got a really bad grade when I graduated. Same with my English classes. Now I can make a computer model look real enough you couldn't tell if it was digital and I can write a short story revolving around anything. But my actual drawing skills are still just as bad as they were back then! So I'm impressed with this piece and I hope you will post a copy of the finished portrait when you are done with it. ^_^

I dont have deviant art. My medium is pen and ink where everything is done in black and whites. I very rarely use colors unless its on photoshop.
