Former Homecoming King Runs For Office As Woman

Gina Duncan filed paper-work to run for the Orange County Commission on Monday. Her goal is to become Orange County's first transgender commissioner. Duncan could wind up running against incumbent Ted Edwards in a race that'll generate a lot of attention, even in a Presidential election year.
Gina Duncan says being a transgender woman is a part of who she is. Both she and the incumbent hope the race is about the issues facing the 5th District, and not about the candidates' sexual orientation.

Duncan, a 56-year-old Democrat who has 30 years of experience in mortgage banking, is president of the Metropolitan Business Association, the region's gay chamber of commerce. If she qualifies for the ballot in June, Duncan would face Edwards this fall.
