When you work in supporting this community, it is not surprising that you see a lot of talk about suicide.  I am honestly surprised that my org has not lost anyone yet.  But I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible.  It's on my mind at the moment because I just sent a response to the most recent email from someone talking about suicide . . . not something taken lightly.  Ever.

So does anyone have any particularly helpful suicide prevention resources that they refer to?  We typically refer to the Trevor Lifeline as many of our people have reported good experiences, much help, and a fairly high degree of understanding trans* issues.  It also has been recommended to us by a psychiatrist who works with trans* folk.  Since we tend to mainly serve a younger clientele, this works well.

Is there anyone else out there who could comment on national/regional (DC metro area) suicide prevention resources and what has worked well in their experience?  One thing we are wary of is referring to a place that won't be sympathetic to trans* spectrum issues.  Since we work with many non-binary folks, we really need resources that will be understanding and respectful toward genderqueer and other non-binary folks as well.  So we tend to be cautious, even if they are labelled as "LGBT" specific resources.  I am, of course, aware of the sticky notes on many of the forums here that give some suicide hotlines.
