i decided to use this site just when i have questions on some things, so here it is. i got lab results back, and it looks like my testosterone level is quite higher than what most mtf on here describe during their hrt. i've been on anti androgens for almost two years. there was one point where my dosage was doubled by the doctor (not sure if i am allowed to say that, but i won't get more specific than that.) i'm also on estradiol since august of 2010. my dosage was also doubled there.
my recent blood test shows my testosterone levels are 146 ng/dl. most people on here follow the reference range 20-80ng/dl. i'm definately below the male normal, but are some female just like that? do some of them just naturally produce alot of that hormone? i started off at 266 ng/dl, so i've reduced it to about half. since i have an ovulation amount of estrogen, it should be well counteracting it, but i'm still a little puzzled by the 35 or less. i think i would be like a corpse if i had that little...

Yes, it happens in women. Unfortunately I wouldn't know if 146 produces x results in women. That is definitely not a level I would want to have, however :(

As far as feeling like a corpse, mine went from 25 to 9 over the past 3 months and I'm just now starting to experience fatigue. At 25 the only difference in energy I experienced is the need for more sleep at night. Throughout the day I was fine.

it would explain my excessive body hair. it's just in short pigmented strands that you see looks excess for a woman up close. i'm pretty hairy for a woman, especially my thighs and buttocks. i have spinal hair as well. i also have a large frame, but i have the female proportions i want. i'm shaped like a cello. i'm really not bothered by it otherwise, because my estrogen seems to be coming along just fine. as long as i pass and feel like the female i should be, it's all that really matters.

Well your happiness (and health) are what counts :) Only you can be the judge of the happiness part, but your health, idk if it is okay for a genetic female to have higher than normal testosterone. I've read a bit on it and haven't seen any terrible effects, but I haven't done any serious research and I'm obviously not a doctor! I'm willing to bet the high T is attributing to the body hair, however. Then again I'm extremely hairy for a woman, and so is my mom and my sister. At least it's not countering the estradiol and giving you acne! Also, if you're on spironolactone, keep in mind that it blocks androgens from binding to androgen receptors... so if you have a 146 testosterone, it is entirely possible that spiro is blocking a good portion of it from actually effecting anything that responds to testosterone.

i just found out that women who are heavier tend to have more testosterone, but more estrogen at the same time. i think something happens with the really high levels of estrogen that causes a response of more testosterone to balance things out. i'm assuming you're much thinner than me. i'm really shapely.

My T level is around 20 ng/dl... I'm definitely not a corpse though.  ;)

I do sleep a bit more, but that's about it. I'd discuss this with your doc. A T level of 146 is on the high-end... especially for the amount of time you've been on HRT. Your doc may need to increase your Spiro dosage.
