Stefan

I'm going to London on the 27th of March and I need to book an hostel or find a place to stay. I'll be in London for a week but I'd like to ask you if you know about any nice, cheap hostels in good areas where there's not much chance of getting harassed by someone.

Thanks in advance :)

Define 'cheap'.....

I've seen some hostels offer £6.5 for the night which really appeals to me. (Zenith hostel)
Those rooms are dorms of 8 beds though, which I don't really mind because I'll only sleep there and be out and about during the day.
But they don't state if they're queer friendly and I wouldn't want to book some place where I'll be harassed.

I've slept in hostels all over the place, as long as you pay, you are a respected customer. There are queer friendly hostels, just type 'queer london' - you'll get loads, but you will be paying more for them adding the word 'queer' to their brochure.

Hostelling International, formerly known as International Youth Hostel, is a very progressive (and hip, young and all that too) company that runs hostels all over, might check them out.  I know they have a few in London, depends where in the city you want to be.

Many of the major hotel chains, particularly the more spendy ones like 4 Seasons, W, Intercontinental and the like are pretty open and accommodating of anyone who's dropping that kind of money.  Hotel people are a lot like emergency room types, they've seen it all, and then some.  Every hotel has a little bit of the Overlook in it.

The motel chains, whilst more expensive, should present no problems, but I am not a foreigner here so I do not know if they want to see a passport or other documents for somebody from abroad - what I am saying here is make sure that your paperwork supports your identity.

I went to Germany last summer and stayed at a hostel there. My name or gender hasn't been changed yet (I have to be one year on hormones to be allowed to change it) but my passport has a new picture so there's no doubt that it's me. I didn't have any problems with my passport during my Germany trip, and only staff people see it. I still introduce myself as Stefan and everything was fine. I'm hoping that it will be the same in London :)

That's very true. The thing is I don't have that much money to spend on accommodation. :P But I'm scared that if I book a hostel that is too cheap that the staff there wont be very friendly and open about these things. I'm going to email the hostels that are in my price range and see what their policy on trans people is. :)

Yeah, I'm hip to the money deal, Hostelling International is a good outfit, you should talk with them, I bet you will like it.  And I only stay in the nice ones on OPM.  The only way to fly.
