Estrogen and Testosterone Levels

Does anyone know what the 'symptoms' might be if both my estrogen and testosterone levels were up (like normal estrogen levels for female and normal testosterone levels for male)? I was off my hormones completely for a month a while back (around February I think) and when I went back on 'em I only went on the estradiol and progesterone. It actually seemed to be enough and I felt like I didn't need spiro anymore. But lately I've been exceedingly moody and bitchy, a bit aggressive, and just on edge all the time. I don't really feel 'normal' anymore and I'm wondering if I should go back on my t-blocker. I know I need a blood test soon when I can afford it, but for now I just want to know if anyone is familiar with any of this.

Hi Ashey,

I can not answer your question from experience because I have never been off my meds. As you stated you know you need to have blood work and be on a doctors care. With that said, when I was 3 months on HRT I lost the ability to have an erection with sex (I later learned how to compensate). I reduced my spiro dose in half and notified my doctor via the patient portal. Over the next week I felt I was going backwards and I felt more aggressive and the positive effects of E were lessening. I went back to my original dose and notified my doctor. A few days later I was back to my new normal.
I do not know if it was in my head but I felt it was real.

My T levels shot up a few years ago and it sucked so much. I felt almost like prehrt again, you know that feeling that something isn't right and I started getting constant erections. My mood overall definitely became worst too.

Your T may very well be going up steadily but until that blood test is done you wont know for sure.

I have had to refrain form HRT on two occasions a number of years ago, around 6 to 8 weeks... I found I was irritable, my breasts a little less firm, but I have to admit I did not bloodtest just after, on one occasion I needed a blood test around 2 moths later and levels were back to normal...

Why did you not restart the T?

Well.. <edit>, so it makes it easier to get aroused and ejaculate... But that aside, I was also wanting to avoid spiro if I could because the whole potassium thing is annoying (I really like avocado :( ).

What ended up happening was I felt normal on just e and p. My scent 'down there' changed, sex drive was cut down, no more morning wood, and a few other changes that made it seem like my testosterone was going back down without the spiro. So I was hopeful, but lately I've just been more and more irritable and bitchy. Still have most of those other changes, though I think my scent is starting to change back and sex drive might be up slightly. Wish I could have a test done, I have the order for it, but can't afford it right now. :/ Luckily I still have a refill for my spiro left so I'm going back on it. Guess I'll see how my mood changes soon.

Some women report these symptoms when on progestogens, especially medroxyprogesterone acetate and if P is too high relative to E. To be discussed with your doctor.

I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

On HRT since early 2004

I am not sure if it is the T that is causing the moodiness. I started out on just e and I wasn't really all that moody. I have heard the progesterone can cause moodiness. That might be what is causing it.
