I get mine at Target. And I'm nowhere near ready to come out.

If the shoe fits, buy it in every color.

I shop wherever I like for bras, panties makeup, shoes, whatever...

I have to say that as a person shopping for tha sort of thing, I stand out.  As a nearly 6 ft tall, 200+ lb bald man, I can draw some attention in Victoria's Secret.  But, I dont let it bother me.

I realized that stores exist in order to sell things.  People work in those stores, and their job is to sell those things.  If they snicker, or treat you with anything other than p0rofessional courtesy, then they are losing a customer, which doesnt help them at all.

So, go shopping where you like.  Look around, and make the best choice you can for what your needs are.  If you are approached by a salesperson, either politely decline the assistance, or accept it.  Accepting the help can be good, because it will help get you what you want, and passersby will tend to overlook you.  A man by himself in the lingerie dept attracts attention.  A man an woman together is nothing new.

When shopping for a bra it will be very helpful to know your chest measurement.  The cup size isnt nearly as important unless you actually have breasts.  To get your measurement, simply wrap a tape measure around your chest about an inch or 2 below your nipple.  Or, if you dont have one, use string.  Place a knot in the string at the right measurement, and go shopping.  Simply comapare your strip to the bra.  remember bras stretch, so get one a bit smaller than your string.  This works welll for skirts too.

If you go first thing in the morning, on like a weekday, it will feel easier.

And be prepared, good bras are not cheep.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

Oh yes definately try to shop when there are less people.  Sunday afternoons are horrible, but usually early on a weekday morning is pretty safe.

There is one of those dollar stores nearby where I could get bras for like $3 each.  I got several sizes when starting out till I figured out what to get.  Any way you go, bras are not a cheap proposition.   :D

Best of luck!

There really is no substitute for a good bra.  Try to keep in mind the reason you are buying it in the first place.  If you are like me, you have no breasts to speak of, and you are just looking for something to make you feel more feminine.  So, as much as cost is a factor, it also has to meet your expectations in terms of color choice, the material it is made from, and the purpose it was intended for.

A sport bra is a bra, but it probably isnt what you are looking for.  Consider factors like matching panties, and whether or not you could wear it in stealth or not.  On colder days, sometimes I like to wear a bra under a sweatshirt, so it is important to me to have a bra that doesnt have molded cups for that purpose.

Consider your choices carefully, and select one that matches youe expectations and your pocketbook.  I know that if I dont buy something nice, I will regret it.

Was that you, Kristi, fighting me over that cute one the other day?  ;D  The dollar store is a good place to get bras just for daily use too.  They are not the greatest and you would not want to wear them when going out somewhere special, but for just running around they work.  A really good one will run around $20 To $40, if you watch for sales.

As said before;in most places saleswomen are not that bothered.

My suggestion is go to a specialist lingere store, Bra's are Us, for example in Australia. Get the nerve up. Talk to the saleswomen. If she laughs or looks deregitory walk out; don't run. ALL of the ones I have been to have taken me to a change stall. measured me. Asked my prefered cup size, the went to get some to try.
However, no one likes perverts. If you have hard on, they will, and I would, call the police.

Now a days I tend to shop as Cindy. To put that in perspective I joined Susan's in about December 2008, I had NEVER shopped as a female. I had gone out with TG clubs. I now usually shop as female. If I'm caught out in male drag I now ask; do you think this will fit me? What is the  return policy if I cannot try it on. The girls in the shops I frequent know me, have never said anything disparaging. The last time I was in I  had bought new boots that have a buckle at about the knee. I had not realised I had snagged my PH and caused a run. The comment from the sales girl was noticing it. Telling me to go to a stall and bringing me a new pair of panti-hose.

Do they laugh behind my back? Do they regard me as the Queen down under? No idea. They just treat me as they do every other female in the shop, with a little more care.

OK I end up spending a lot. That's what shopping and retail is about.

Cindy.
As many others have said, it's confidence. Feel free.  The only bad time is the first time. Have you ever bought a suit (male)? Many of the shop assistants in my town in the ":Men's Fitting Dept" are openly Gay. You may feel less comfortable there!!

Love Cindy.

Lots of good advice here I agree with most like going to a store when there is less people. My favorite bra comes from walmart for 8 to 10 dollars. I have a couple expensive ones but as was suggested un tell you know what size you want go cheap as possible.

One note when you do get a nice upper end bra wash it by hand, hang dry, never the machine!!!!

Good luck shopping  ;D

I've been shopping for years in female presentation, and I pass with no problem.  However, when I first started shopping for female clothes, it was in male presentation.

I totally disagree with the contention that it's easier when the stores are less crowded.  You stand out more, and you are more likely to have a salesperson want to assist you.  Men shop for their wives, for gifts, or because the wife is working.  It's no big deal.

And you can return stuff.  It is a non-issue to buy something, take it home to try it on, and return it if it doesn't fit.
It's easier to change your sex and gender in Iran, than it is in the United States.  Way easier.

Please read my novel, Dragonfly and the Pack of Three, available on Amazon - and encourage your local library to buy it too! We need realistic portrayals of trans people in literature, for all our sakes

My problem with a bra is that the bit between the breasts sticks out...
I don't know if it's because they are too tight, yes i did measure.. or if it's because i have a concave breast bone..(chicken chest)..
Thought it does stick out more than it would even if i had a flat chestbone...  ???

I..

Totally random, and personal, so don't feel you need to answer. But what size bra do you wear? It may be just the concave breast bone, it could also be the cut of the bra or the size of the cups and how you fit in them.... so there are actually a few things to consider. For some reason the only thing I actually learned anything about when I was a teenage girl was bras. Ironically I've never been bigger than an A cup lol. Although, convenient for the binding aspect now days :)

If you don't find any inexpensive bras at retail shops, pehaps you could find a used clothing store. Infact, you could get other clothing there!

Regarding finding the proper size - you could go to a specialty store (that sells only lingerie). I went to a Victoria's Secret with my 'boobs' [btw, I was not at all in 'girl mode']; I merely asked (in a sincere, relaxed voice) if I could get fitted for a bra. No hassles or weird reaction. The fitter got my band measurment, and went to get a few bras to try on. I thought that I was wearing the proper size; it turned out that I needed to go up a band size.

When I began wearing bras, I got the smallest that seemed to be a good fit. Well, I've since realized that band size isn't the whole story. You also have to consider 'boob spacing'  ??? (that's what I call it). I guess that you could look at it this way: the cups should have the same 'spacing' as your nipples. Iow, the cups shouldn't squeeze your boobs together.

I have a bunch of wrong-size bras - maybe I can sell them at a yard sale! I hope that this helps someone.
