I went to a Star Trek Exhibition in the 90's.  They claimed the flip mobile phone (the communicator) and the PDA (the tricorder).  In the next generation, they have things very similar to ipads.  Can't wait for the sonic screwdriver and the psychic paper!

Ok you dragged me out of the boredom that was today. For being a trekkie I have to answer this post. (thanks BTW  ;D)

Two way real time communication both visual and vocal(webcams and microphones)  through screens is another item some of us use everyday. AKA View-screens in Star Trek
