I just got an invite this past week to my high school reunion.
I was struck by the fact that I was addressed in the letter by my nickname in H.S., and signed by the nickname of the person that was the class president.

Isn't it amazing, that even after years have passed, that people still remember you by a childhood nickname, and you can instantly recognize them by their's in turn.

Ex: Like Karen Allen recognizing her old BF "Lumpy" in Scrooged

My old NN?  Webster -- as in the dictionary, not as in Emmanuel lewis.  I was the kid with all the answers, ala the walking dictionary. When you are the queer kid, having all the answers keeps you out of harms way with all the right people.

Anybody else have a NN they'd like to forget, or had forgotten?

Hmmm...

I heard the "Fa..." gay slur more times than I would have liked. "Bubble Butt" was popular as well, lol.

Oh, let's not forget "Ostrich" (I have a long... sorry, I mean swan-like <g> neck).

I don't think I want to remember more, lol...

Although, thinking about those names now, they were kinda compliments actually, weren't they?

Otherwise I don't think I had any affectionately-meant nicknames. Pout.

This is a little off topic, but related to the subject at hand.

I went to the Classmates site, where the letter to me had been addressed from.

I checked out the photos of some people I graduated alongside.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!      Not to be mean, but how did everyone get so, well, plump?

I didn't recognize anyone!

I'm no beauty, and I am older than dirt, but I definitely feel pretty good about myself now.
Why?  Because in comparison, I'm in great physical condition vs. my peergroup.

The nickname I hated was way before highschool.
When I was in 6th grade there were only two other girls who had begun puberty and had breasts. They were early developers like myself. I was the same size in 6th grade as I am now 38 DD. The rest of the students called me and these 2 other girls (who happened to be my friends andthe three of us hung out with eachother) the BTC of "big tits committee" and the personal NN they gave me was TNT aka tits and teeth.
I hated school.

Currently, some of my friends have taken to calling me 'Gruk.' (Or, in one case, Kruk, which is Dutch for 'stool') (A roleplaying character; Dwarf with a very big hammer.) Others call me Kritcha. (Again; after introducing a character with a pet called Kritcha.)
Wolfy is one others use...
But the most persistant one is Stir, a spin-off from Stirgid, again a roleplaying character.

In high school, most people knew me as Red Roofdevil. (Rooie Dakduivel.) Because of my red hairs, and, of course, the temper that goes with it.
There's one guy who insists on calling me 'dude' and 'hun,' depending on the situation, and may call me both in the very same conversation.

I have had so many nicknames throught the years in different parts of my like. The earlest one I can remember is "The Skull" because they said I looked like a skull on a computer game we use to play. A few more names I have been know by include Supercat, The Batter and Noddy (yes I fall alseep easily).

Memories.

Oh... more...

Curtainrod ~ Not sure. I think a play on my name and the fact that I was always very thin and tall. Used only by relatives to annoy me

Button ~ Family use only. Because of the nose. Cute NN when you're five, darn embarassing when you're fifteen.

Kitty ~ The wife's term for me. And she calls our cat "the man." (you think *I* am confused?) It gets fun when you're in a crowded supermarket, and your wife starts talking about how "it's a good thing we locked the man in the bathroom - we'll just leave him in there until he starts behaving." (the cat was having bathroom troubles).

Lets see... for a while in HS they called me Johney Rotten  >:D  cuz they said I looked kinda like him...

After HS some of my friends started calling me spook or spector because Id dissapear from where ever I was and end up standing next to or behind them, startleing them in the process when theyd notice...
Then more recently it was Barrance.... which was anoying as heck, I didnt like my birth name to begin with you didnt need to adapt it and make it longer....

And finaly a great deal of my friends and aquantances have taken to calling me Railey <pronounce Ray-Ley> which is I guess a shortened ******* :)   I like that one.

I had many.  Chip, Yellow, Bug, Ronson.  Kids are usually wild as you know.
