How did you quit doing whatever it was that was harmful to you? I quit drinking cold turkey, one of the "white knuckle" crowd. Hugs, Devlyn

I don't have any addictions luckily, not unless you include sleeping.   :)

I've gone from smoking cigarettes every chance I got to smoking hardly ever, but that's over the course of a year and a half, and with medication and lots of other things going in my favor.

The only time I officially quit anything was when I got pregnant. I quit smoking cigarettes as soon as I gave up on figuring out how to get an abortion, and I stayed quit until a couple years later when I weaned my daughter. The method was simply not feeling like I had a choice. It didn't cross my mind that smoking cigarettes was an option during that time.

I quit coffee in the same time, but I would still brew a cup every morning and just kind of hold it and smell it until it got cold. :D

I also quit using other drugs then, but I'd been just taking whatever people around me were taking, and I didn't have any habits.

Get into the Vortex and you won't need substances.   You take them because they make you feel good.  Get into the Vortex.

people that quit drinking cold turkey can die from it,
you do have to be drinking lots for that to happen,

I find that doing something else is what works,
ending something is hard,
starting something new and forgetting about what you were doing before is way easier

I'm a cold turkey girl myself. I've been "clean" for over 20 years, no drinking, no cigs, no drugs. I was a SERIOUS party girl in my 20's, likely hiding from my GID.

Huh? What? I took substances because they rendered me pretty much insensible, hence no ability to worry about the various issues I had.. There was no 'feeling good' involved.. And being an addict certainly didn't 'feel good'..

Cold Turkey on its own didnt work for me, but not im doing well with combined cold turkey with the feeling that im running out of time to sort my sh*t out. Its a choice between successful transition and smoking/drugs. Considering the whole reason i started smoking/druging was my GID it makes sense that there would come a point in transition where i had to say, enough is enough.

Up till 2009 I was taking, Ketamine, Extacy, Cocaine, LSD, Nitrous Oxide, amphetamines, 2CE, 2CB, 2CI, Dragonfly, pills, magic mushrooms and smoking weed and cigerettes.

Start of full time i quit them all appart from the weed and cigs.

4 days ago i quit weed

yesterday i quit smoking

Trust me on this one, more people die from the effects of drinking than those who die from the effects of quitting. Until Big Medicine turned Big Problems into Big Money, just quitting was the only option, and it doesn't cost a dime. Hugs, Devlyn

Just quit my two cocktail maximum a day plan cold turkey. The last time I got on the scale I noticed that the 285 calories per drink was sabotaging my weight maintenance plan. The benefit of a late afternoon buzz was offset by the cost. That was incentive enough for me!

My food addiction was cured by my opiate addiction and depression.
My opiate addiction I was forced to stop when I tried to kill myself and got thrown on suicide watch.
My tobacco addiction I'm still not entirely free from, on patch's and gum but still smoke about 1 a day.
My lying addiction I'm still not entirely free from, but I'm far more honest having becoming more 'ok' with how screwed up I am.
