That's essentially what I do Tekla. I barely understand English, let alone German.
But the translate functions tend to create a lot of confusion due to syntax problems, not to mention differences in emphasis and meaning. I did German and other languages at school. While I don't remember any of those, I do recall much of the grammer and syntax issues so can generally make some sense of it.

I tend to agree with your points.
I was not aware of the actual reputations of the various media as such. But I had previously said I would sign if I could find one decent source. Taz, at least, is published in Germany. By Germans and for a German audience. It was certainly external from the others and as I said, the others seemed to be copying each other, presumably because the story is rather sensational.
I maintain my reservations, to be honest, but a commitment is a commitment. I just find the whole tone of the piece so, for want of a better comparison, American. The articles in most outlets are self-righteous but lacking any positive edge or suggestion that the action is somehow unusual, which it will be, if it turns out to be true.
I was and remain very suspicious at the false links and the lack of any sign of this story appearing in any other outlets. The British press would normally be right on top of that one. The Mail, for example would be spinning the whole thing to demonstrate the EU is the work of the devil himself. Along with a bucket full of its well known sympathy for oppressed and misunderstood people everywhere.
I'm sorry to our American member, but seriously, if that was about some southern US state or perhaps somewhere in S America, I doubt many would find it surprising. Though I don't doubt the finger wagging judgement would be present.
It is just so alien to so much that goes on here. Including some very liberal attitudes toward transgender children.
