As someone who lived in Scotland from her mid teens until she could escape, I can see what is happening. I appreciate that many, possibly most, don't see patterns in social and historical study, but this really is part of a positive process which can only be of benefit in the long run.
The problem with irrelevant discrimination, all irrelevant discrimination is the effect it has upon society as a whole.
Scotland isn't a particularly backward society, far from it. But traditionally, it suffered from the imposition of a constitution based upon late 17th century principals, namely that the principal source of consultation was the Church of Scotland.
Those days are gone now. For Scotland. But not for other societies which are being held back by other influences. (Crushed under the weight of dead people). Slowly, the dead are being finally burred.
I confess to having a bit of a smile at the comparison to the Kilt.
