As Washington Governor Chris Gregoire signed the state's marriage equality bill into law, the Rev. Dr. Nancy Wilson, Moderator of the historic Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC), celebrated, "We have marriage equality from coast to coast!  Millions of loving, same-gender couples are now living in states where they are equal before both God and the law."

"I am so proud of the Metropolitan Community Churches," said Wilson. "It was MCC's founder, the Rev. Tory Perry, who performed the first public same-gender marriage in the United States in California in 1969.  In 1970, he filed the first lawsuit legal for recognition of same-gender marriages. That lawsuit launched the debate over marriage equality in the United States."
